American Sign Language - English
Interpretation is a three-year program taught jointly by Red River
College and the University of Manitoba's Linguistics Department.
The purpose of the program is to develop the skills required to
function as an American Sign Language (ASL) - English Interpreter
in facilitating communication between Deaf and non-deaf individuals
in a wide variety of settings and for diverse populations. Graduates
will receive a diploma in ASL - English Interpretation from RRC
and a Bachelor of Arts degree from U of M.

The Independent Interpreter Referral
Service is a professional non-profit corporation that provides a
wide range of interpreting and intervention services to meet the
diverse needs of the hearing, hard of hearing, Deaf and Deaf-Blind
communities

M.A.V.L.I. is a non-profit organization
responsible for promoting the standardization and high quality
of professional services provided by sign language interpreters.
M.A.V.L.I. advocates for a high standard of education in professional
interpreter training programs and promotes professional development,
knowledge and skills of visual language interpreters.
Shared Reading-Society
for Manitobans with Disabilities
The Society for Manitobans with Disabilities
is developing the first Canadian video workshop series, called Shared
Reading, that teaches parents to sign children's stories in American
Sign Language. Shared Reading will better equip parents to meet the
communication needs of Deaf children and improve the literacy levels
of Deaf Children in both ASL and English.
